The Arirang Mass Games is one of the largest and most elaborate performances in the world, featuring tens of thousands of performers executing perfectly synchronized gymnastics, dance routines, and acrobatics in a massive stadium spectacle. The event is a symbol of North Korean unity, discipline, and devotion to the ruling regime, blending propaganda with artistic mastery. Rungrado 1st of May Stadium is considered to be the 2nd largest stadium by seating and to hold over 200,000 plus people when performers are included in the count.

Performers, many of whom have trained since childhood, move in flawless unison, forming gigantic mosaics and human wave formations that depict historical events, political slogans, and nationalistic imagery. The background itself is a living mural, created by thousands of card-flipping participants who form stunning images in real time. To attend the Mass Games, visitors must book a state-approved tour to North Korea, as independent travel is not permitted. Several companies specialize in bringing westerners to DPRK. The event is held at May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, typically between August and September. Expect the schedule to vary greatly with the event not even being held some years. DPRK is currently reopening in 2025 after bring closed to visitors since 2020 due to Covid.
